Template groups and the book mix

A template group bundles your pages into one style. It holds a page for each puzzle type, and it can also hold the mix of puzzles you want in every book. The Brainsparkler style that comes with the app is a good example.

Click New group. Give it a name and a short description. The description shows up later when you pick the group for a new book. That helps once you have a few styles side by side, for example one for young children and one for older kids.

In the Puzzle types tab, every puzzle type has a row. Click Make page, and the app creates a page for that type in this group, ready to style on the right. Once a row has a page, the button says Open. The round arrow takes the row back to the shared page. Types you leave alone simply use the shared page. You do not have to style every puzzle type at once. Start with the ones you use most, and add more whenever you like.

Under Shared pages you choose the fallback for every other puzzle type, plus the look of the front matter and the answer pages. The Fonts tab sets the title, instructions and page number font for all pages in the group at once. A size of zero keeps the standard size. Change a font here, and the pages already in the group follow it.

Now the book mix. Give each page a share, as a percentage. Twelve percent word search, for example. The reference length is just your usual book length, here one hundred and nine pages, so you can read each share as a page count. Because shares are percentages, they scale with every book, short or long. The line at the top tells you how much of the book you have covered. A share of zero takes a puzzle type out of the mix again.

In the wizard, pick your group, set the total pages and click Fill puzzles. The puzzles are filled in your mix. Tick Only puzzle types this template has a page for, and the counts refill by themselves. You can still change any number by hand. Everything in the group saves itself as you go. Next, see Sharing or importing a template group.
