Using templates: give your whole book one look

A template gives every page in your book the same look. The background, the heading, the fonts and the decorations all match. It is the quickest way to make a book look professional. Here is how to use one, from the first step of a new book to changes you make later.

Start a guided new project. In the first step, open the Template menu. The app comes with one ready to use, the Brainsparkler style. A template here is really a group: one page design for each puzzle type, plus pages for the front matter and the answers. Pick it, and every page you generate is laid out with it. Below the menu, the description of the group helps you tell your styles apart once you have made a few of your own.

In the next step, tick Only puzzle types this template has a page for. The list now shows just the puzzles this style was designed for, and the page counts fill in by themselves. That way the whole book comes out in one look, without pages that fall back to a plain layout. Then go through the last steps and click Generate book.

Changed your mind? Open Book settings. Under Template, choose another group and click Apply to every page. Every page is laid out again, and pages you add later follow the new template too. Your puzzles, words and settings stay exactly as they were. Only the look changes.

If you move something on one page, that page gets a layout of its own. Click Back to the book's template to undo that. Next, learn how to design a page yourself in Making your own template.
